Albert M. Greenfield Foundation
2010 Albert M. Greenfield Lecture: "New Leaders for New Puzzles (video)
(June 2010)
Dr. Donald F. Kettl, dean of the University of Maryland School of Public Policy and highly-regarded expert in public policy and public management, delivered this year's lecture, which focused on meeting the challenges of accountability and performance for improved health, education, and social services. The annula lecture is presented by the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia Foundation
White Paper: Fiscal Health and Sustainability
(July 2010)
This white paper is the second in a series commissioned by The Philadelphia Foundation to assess the major opportunities and challenges faced by the nonprofit sector in southeastern Pennsylvania. Fiscal Health notes that while the public has become aware of the impact of the Great Recession on nonprofit finances, what is of more lasting importance is how the sector's business model differs from that of the for-profit community. The paper also explores measures that can strengthen nonprofits when implemented by staff, funders, board members and the community at large.

William Penn Foundation with Temple University
Where We Stand: Community Indicators for Metropolitan Philadelphia
(June 2010)
This annual report monitors various dimensions of community life, selecting a few critical indicators to tell us where we stand on those dimensions as a region and within individual local communities. It is designed to help citizens, organizations, and researchers throughout the metro area to advance the quality of life in their communities.

The Pew Charitable Trusts
Philadelphia’s Changing Schools and What Parents Want from Them
(June 2010)
A comprehensive new study from The Pew Charitable Trusts' Philadelphia Research Initiative finds that K-12 education in Philadelphia is undergoing a sweeping transformation that has given parents a new array of choices about where to send their children to school but has left families thinking they still do not have enough quality options. The report features a first-of-its-kind poll of and focus groups with parents of school-age children in Philadelphia.  Executive Summary also available.

The Pew Charitable Trusts
Not Out of the Woods: The Recession's Continuing Impact on Big City Taxes, Services and Pensions
(May 2010)
This review by the Trusts' Philadelphia Research Initiative is the latest in a series of three reports looking at the municipal budgets in 13 major cities, including Philadelphia. Results show that, as of late May, Philadelphia was alone among the 13 cities in increasing broad-based taxes for a second year in a row.

Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance 
TempCheck Survey
(April 2010)
GPCA's latest TempCheck survey measures the experience of over 120 cultural organizations who responded to a questionnaire about the effects of the economy on their fundraising, programming, and other activities. The next survey will be administered in October 2010.

Nonprofit Finance Fund
State of the Nonprofit Sector 2010 (PDF)

(March 2010)
This survey of more than 1,300 nonprofit leaders in markets nationwide found that while most expect that 2010 will be financially more difficult or as difficult as 2009, many are taking dramatic and creative steps to maintain – and even expand – service delivery to meet increased demand during this time of continued economic uncertainty.

The Philadelphia Foundation
Nonprofit Study
(February 2010)
To quantify and describe the nonprofit landscape in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, The Philadelphia Foundation commissioned a study by the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia as the first step in gauging the sector’s vitality, leadership, sustainability and future direction.
