Job Description
The Program Director is responsible for administering the Leeway Foundation’s grant programs in accordance with its mission and grantmaking criteria, and for managing relationships, both internally and externally, which sustain and promote these programs. The Program Director collaborates with staff and board as appropriate and reports to the Executive Director.
Specific/Key Responsibilities
Program Development, Coordination and Evaluation
- Contribute creative vision and leadership in all areas of programming.
- Coordinate all elements of grant program, including:
- Applications and guidelines (changes/revisions to existing materials and developing new materials as needed which includes working with Communications Director on developing design concepts, and production and mailing schedules)
- Application processing and applicant support
- Panel processes, including identifying and recruiting panelists, and policy discussions
- Participatory program evaluation, assessment and modification
- Creation of program-related content for written materials, e.g. brochures, press releases and website
- Development of program-related training materials
- Support design and implementation of program evaluation framework, ensuring regular evaluation of program impact.
Management
- Develop annual operations plan for grants program, in alignment with organizational and strategic plan.
- Recruit, train, supervise, support leadership development of grants program staff.
- Manage grants program budget development, modifications, and monitoring.
- Prepare grants program reports for the Board of Directors.
- Participate in organization strategic planning, Board Committee work, and staff retreats, as appropriate.
Communications and Advocacy
- Work closely with the Communications Director to maintain visible public presence of Leeway and its grantees, including effective representation and dissemination of information about Leeway’s grant programs and mission.
- Develop relationships with key individuals and peer organizations in Leeway’s field, locally, regionally and nationally.
- Represent and serve as an advocate for art and change in key philanthropic and other networks to support the strategic goals of the foundation.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in project development, management, and evaluation.
- Highly organized with proven ability to work independently
- A strong interest in and commitment to the Foundation’s mission and current grants program.
- Ability to build teams and relate effectively to applicants, community partners, staff, board, volunteers, and consultants.
- Excellent facilitator and communicator, comfortable with public speaking and working with diverse audiences.
- Excellent written and analytic skills and demonstrated track record of developing creative solutions.
- An enthusiastic and collaborative approach to work, a good sense of humor, the ability to communicate well across cultures, and a willingness to learn and be open to new ideas.
- English proficiency required, proficiency in a second language related to grantmaking desirable (e.g. Spanish.)
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience leading design, management, and evaluation of strategic programs.
- Minimum of 5 years management and supervision experience.
- Substantial knowledge and experience working in the arts.
- Knowledge of and experience in philanthropy and grantmaking, preferably social justice or arts related. Experience in social justice or arts organization a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with and commitment to art and social change work and/or anti-oppression organizing that integrates race, gender, social, and economic justice.
- Experience facilitating small and large groups.
Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Internet-savvy and skilled with technology
- Experience with database software (e.g. FileMaker Pro or MS Access)
Salary:
Commensurate with experience. Generous benefits package, including health, dental, and vacation. Position based in Philadelphia, but candidate must be willing to travel throughout the six-county Philadelphia region.
Hours: 40 hours per week (On average; may work more hours around events, application deadlines and panel meetings. Some evenings and weekends.)

Manager, Information Technology

We are seeking an Information Technology Manager to support
daily end-user needs of thirty (30) employees and work with
senior management to align current and future IT initiatives
with the Foundation’s strategic direction.
The IT Manager will also be responsible for the following:
- User requirement analysis and project plan development/implementation
for optimizing performance
- IT Policy and Standard Operating Procedure maintenance,
development, and enforcement
- Telecommunication system improvements
- Disaster Recovery documentation and planning
- IT business and budget plans

We require five (5) or more years of experience

networks Experience with MS Office, particularly Excel,
SQL server, relational databases, SPSS, and mapping software.

- Ability to teach and communicate
technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Understanding of current applications and trends in MIS
technology
- Not-for-profit
experience is a plus.

Position Description and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the pre- and post-award administration of a
multidisciplinary portfolio of cancer research grants within
AACR’s program, currently at $5 million annually
in grant making.
- Develops and executes a comprehensive marketing plan
utilizing online, print, and direct mail vehicles and tracks
effectiveness.
- Communicates both orally and in writing with grant applicants
and recipients concerning eligibility issues, policy interpretations,
or grant management matters.
- Oversees grant application process and ensures compliance
of applications with policies and procedures as set by
the AACR.
- Communicates both orally and in writing with grant review
committees concerning review and selection processes.
- Convenes review committee meetings and conference calls
and drafts meeting reports.
- Prepares grantees’ terms and conditions documents

- Serves as staff liaison to the ad hoc Grants

- Participates in the development of the Annual Report.
- Maintains comprehensive Website information.
- Maintains accurate archival records.
- Delegates and supervises work of staff assistants and
contributes to their professional development.
- Performs other essential tasks and duties required of
the position in order to support the Director as needed.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of professional experience.
- Strong management skills and supervisory experience in
a multi-project environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High motivation with excellent judgment and well-developed
analytic abilities.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.

The Foundation is seeking a senior program officer to work with the Vulnerable
Populations Portfolio. This team—which oversees some of the Foundation’s
most exciting and inspiring work--seeks new ideas and partners from outside the
health sector to affect immediate and lasting improvements in the health of our
society’s most vulnerable people. This Portfolio addresses how complex
social factors—poverty, education, and housing—affect people’s
health, and develops solutions within that context. This approach allows us to
address long-standing problems using unconventional approaches that start at
the individual and community level, but have potential for national impact. More

The senior program officer should be a creative thinker
who understands how philanthropic investments can be used
strategically to change systems of care in ways that will
improve outcomes for vulnerable populations. They should
provide organizational leadership in designing new initiatives, evaluating
proposals, monitoring programs and grants, learning
from program investments and activities, and creating impact.
This senior program officer will report to the Vulnerable
Populations team leader regarding team goals and initiatives
and to the senior vice president, health group for overall
Foundation and non-team work. Examples of the types of programming
found in the Vulnerable Populations portfolio includes, but
are not limited to:
- The development and promotion of supportive housing as
a solution for addressing chronic homelessness and now
potentially as an alternative to jail for seriously mentally
ill individuals.
- The incubation and growth of the Green House model of
nursing care as a community based care alternative to the
traditional institutional nursing home.
- The piloting and now multi-site testing of a model for
early diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia in adolescents
as a promising approach to better manage and even prevent
the disease.
- The replication and national expansion of a school-based
model to promote play as a critical element for healthy
child development.
As with staff at all levels of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,
senior program officers are expected to demonstrate a passionate
commitment to the Foundation's mission of improving health
and health care for all Americans and to the guiding principles
that undergird that mission.
Essential Duties:
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new Group
initiatives. Serve as a partner with other Group members
to the team leader and the senior vice president in identifying
the strategic objectives and program direction.
- Work with other program professionals, administrative
staff, the senior vice president, grantees, consultants,
evaluators and other funders to plan, develop and respond
to requests for funding. Screen and assess prospective
project proposals, work with applicants to refine plans
and project budgets, draft preliminary summaries of the
project and develop recommendations for program management
teams, program staff, Foundation management and Board approval.
- Attend meetings, conduct site visits, and review grantee
submissions as part of overall responsibility for developing
and managing existing grants and programs. Prepare
oral and written summaries of grant activities.
- Monitor, track, learn from, and report on team initiatives
and programs.
- Respond to public inquiries about program directions
and the application process. Represent the Foundation publicly
regarding program funding and grant making results.
- Participate in conferences, seminars and other professional
development activities to maintain and enhance expertise
and professional status.
- Contribute to and participate in the internal committees
of the Foundation and carry out other responsibilities
assigned by the Vulnerable Populations team leader and
executive staff. Participate in Foundation-wide projects
related to interest and program areas.
- Performs other projects and responsibilities, as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Completion of an advanced degree (e.g. MA, MPH, PhD JD,
MSW) and extensive experience of at least seven (7) to
10 years plus proven leadership and recognized in the field
for specific area of knowledge in one or more of the Foundation’s
interest areas.
- Knowledge of the US health system and/or
philanthropy is desirable.
- Experience showing an ability
to manage programs as well as positions including increasing
responsibility.
- Personally motivated to support the Foundation’s
mission and goals; creative, flexible; able to work both
independently and in teams to think imaginatively about
opportunities; to respond to novel and innovative approaches
to addressing an issue; to inspire others to work towards
achieving team goals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; collegial,
energetic, able to develop productive relationships with
colleagues, grantees, consultants, external funders, and
others who contribute to program development and management.
- Strong
written and verbal communication skills are essential to
success in this position; able to synthesize material and

- Experience
handling multiple priorities effectively; must be adept
at organizing time efficiently; high tolerance for ambiguity;
ability to understand and work effectively in the Foundation’s
organizational structure.
- Demonstrated maturity and seasoned
judgment. Ability
to make decisions, justifies recommendations, and is responsive
and clear with proposal applicants.
- Ability to travel—including
