Resources for Corporations
Corporations and businesses become involved in philanthropy
for many reasons, including: to strengthen the communities
where they operate and where their employees live; to
demonstrate their commitment to corporate citizenship;
and to increase brand awareness and image among key
stakeholders. Recent studies by the Conference Board,
the Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College
and other researchers have shown a positive correlation
between a company's strong civic responsibility and
financial performance indicators such as return on sales
and assets. This research has also shown that employee
recruitment and retention is higher at companies that
demonstrate a commitment to their community. The bottom
line is, corporate philanthropy has real business value.
Personnel that run corporate giving programs or foundations
often wear other "hats" as well, from public
relations and marketing to government relations, sometimes
even human resources.
