Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Announces Fall 2011 PennPAT Grants for Touring Engagements 44 Touring Engagements Funded
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation announced today that it has awarded $184,830 for 44 engagements with 31 different PennPAT Roster Artists through the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour (PennPAT) program. A detailed list of grant awards is available by clicking here.
The purpose of PennPAT is increase opportunities for professional performing artists to obtain successful touring engagements. PennPAT generates earned revenue for its Roster Artists by awarding grants on a competitive basis to performing arts presenting organizations in the nine states and jurisdictions of the mid-Atlantic region (Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and West Virginia), as well as Ohio.
Requests were submitted at the October 17, 2011 deadline. Applications were reviewed by a panel of peers from across the mid-Atlantic region who considered the quality of the engagement and the presenting skills of the applicant organization. Panelists included:
- Tina Betz, Director of Cultural Affairs and Fund Development, City of Wilmington, Wilmington, DE
- Jack McLarnan, Program Manager, Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, Chicago, IL
- Michael Murray, Executive Director, Music At Gretna, Elizabethtown, PA
- Charlotte Sommers, Executive Director, Black Rock Center for the Arts, Germantown, MD
Grant awards ranged from $300 to $25,000. Funded engagements include performances and residencies at performing arts centers, colleges, festivals, arts councils, and cultural and community centers. Two grants were awarded for New Directions projects, involving long term residencies that allow the artist to explore creative endeavors and develop new connections with the presenter and the community.
The next deadline for PennPAT Presenter Fee Support and New Directions Grants is February 15, 2012, for projects scheduled between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2014. The guidelines, application and the roster of eligible artists are available online.
